THE AMBIENCE AND THE LOCATION
The Moroccan Restaurant (that’s it’s name) is located on the mezzanine floor of the Four Points Sheraton hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road, valet parking is available. The décor is subtly Moroccan middle eastern without being over the top. I really liked sitting and eating in the u shaped sofa booth dining section; great for those end of term mums nights out as no poor person is at either end of a long table. Would comfortably seat 12 or so people. There is a fabulous bar area adjacent to the restaurant where a Hollywood Moment meets a Moroccan Moment, think Bogey and Bacall. This section would make a great venue for pre dinner drinks or after dinner Moroccan tea and pastries. It is a non smoking bar and restaurant
Our meal consisted of a number of freshly prepared courses:
*Harirah Soup: Perfectly spiced tomato based chick pea soup, hearty, healthy and super tasty. I loved it and could have made a meal of this alone as it’s served from a mini casserole dish with fresh bread. (Hummous and flat breads were on the table to start with)
*Seafood Bastilla: The equivalent of a Moroccan Cornish pastie; very substantial and bursting with sea food that included shrimp, squid and fish. I was quite full from the soup but managed half of the bastilla which I think is served with pigeon in Europe and called Pastilla? Do let me know.
*Chicken or Lamb Tagine: We tasted both of these flavours, again substantial portions and while the couscous was cooked to perfection, our party was split between the flavours of the meat, some loved it, others thought it should have been more falling off the bone tender.
The finale of fresh fruit and vanilla ice cream served in little Moroccan starter dishes was gorgeous to look at and a delicious to eat. We made room for a traditional glass of Moroccan tea in the bar and tasted some little Moroccan pastries to finish.
DoinDubai tip: order your tea ‘medium’ otherwise it’ll be too sweet.
Faultless and authentic as at their Italian restaurant Luigis next door.
